In Layman Terms is a family band from Williamsburg, Virginia.  Cole Layman, 18, and Logan Layman, 15, have been making music together for as long as they can remember.  They have a passion for the blues and write original, foot-stomping music. Their chilling vocal harmonies and unique use of foot percussion make for a gritty, soulful, and unforgettable performance.   Music connects them in a way that cannot be expressed with words.  They love any opportunity to share their joy with others.  The siblings spend most of their time writing original material and performing as a duo, or with their mom playing the Farmer StompDrum.

The Layman’s are thrilled to be returning to The International Blues Challenge in Memphis for the fourth year in a row to play with, and compete against, other acts from around the world.  They went in 2013 and 2014 as a youth showcase and then competed in the solo/duo category in 2015.  This January they will be representing The Blue Ridge Blues Society in the band category with their mom on drums and their friend, Carson Diersing, on harmonica.  Their dream is to one day make it to the finals and play on the Orpheum stage!

In their free time the Layman family can be found leading rhythm circles for several populations.  They have started a family business that they call RhythmPlay- In Layman Terms, and they bring the power of rhythm to the community through interactive music and exciting rhythm games and sing-alongs.
